Spring 2016 — Selected for Fuorisalone 2017 exhibition
Overview
While studying at Politecnico di Milano, I got the opportunity to collaborate with the Last Supper Museum. This project sought to enhance the overall visitor experience of the Last Supper Museum by better connecting it with the surrounding cloisters of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Rather than treating the museum as an isolated destination, we aimed to create a more immersive, cohesive journey that extended beyond the iconic painting itself.
Approach & solution
Our comprehensive project involved a multi-stage approach to address the museum's needs:
A site visit and museum tour to understand the existing space and user flow.
Mapping out the customer journey to identify pain points and areas for improvement.
Conducting desktop research to gather insights into best practices in museum and landscape design.
Developing landscape and interior design concepts to enhance the museum environment.
Creating a cohesive visual identity to unify the museum and its surroundings.
Exploring additional services to enrich the visitor experience.
Drawing on research into museum and landscape design, we developed integrated landscape and interior concepts, created a unified visual identity, and proposed additional services to enrich the visit. The final design improved spatial flow between the museum and cloisters, strengthened the sense of immersion, and provided a clearer narrative experience for visitors.
Impact
The project was selected for exhibition at Fuorisalone 2017, validating its relevance within the design community. More importantly, it demonstrated how thoughtful experience design can deepen engagement with cultural institutions and create more meaningful visitor experiences.
This museum hosts one of the world's most famous work of art. We wanted to create the memorable moment it deserves.
