Revitalizing Finnoo: Integrating Service Design into Urban Planning

In collaboration with the city of Espoo, our project focused on transforming Finnoo, an existing small neighbourhood, into a vibrant community for its future 17,000 residents.

Through field visits, interviews, and a comprehensive service design workshop, we uncovered that the key to enhancing the neighbourhood’s appeal lies in collaborative urban development involving its residents.

Our proposal presents a visionary approach, outlining the city’s aspirations, core principles endorsed by all stakeholders, and a strategic roadmap combining community engagement and urban development phases, and five tangible concept examples. By fostering inclusive participation and incorporating resident insights gathered through our methods, we aimed to create a neighbourhood that reflects the needs and desires of its diverse population.

The city of Espoo was very pleased with our work, signalling the effectiveness of our approach in fostering sustainable community-driven urban development.

The city of Espoo expressed its interest in further collaboration.
